What Your Appearance Says About You Before You Speak

The Dare to Declare Podcast, Episode 68
What do we communicate before we speak?
I recently joined Debbi Sluys on The Dare to Declare Podcast for a conversation about what your appearance says about you before you even begin to speak.
The way we present ourselves creates an immediate impression. Colour, pattern, clothing and personal style all send signals. Those signals can influence how others perceive us, but they can also affect how we feel when we walk into a room, meet someone new, speak in front of people, or simply move through our everyday life.
During our conversation, Debbi and I explored the connection between personal style, confidence, relationships and professional life. We also talked about my Beauty Codes Method and why understanding your own visual language can make getting dressed much more intentional.
Personal style as communication
I have always been interested in the relationship between who we are internally and what people see externally.
Clothing is part of that communication. The colours we choose, the shapes we wear and the overall impression we create can support the message we want to send or create a very different one.
That is why I look at personal style beyond individual outfits. I am interested in the complete image and in whether it feels connected to the person wearing it.
The goal is not to follow every trend. It is to understand yourself well enough to make visual choices with intention.
The personal side of the conversation
This episode also became much more personal than a conversation about clothing.
I shared parts of my own journey, including immigrating to Canada, going through loss and rebuilding different parts of my life. We also spoke about experiences that made me question outside expectations and pay closer attention to what actually felt right for me.
Those experiences have shaped the way I work today.
For me, image and identity are closely connected. Changes in life often change the way we want to be seen, and sometimes our wardrobe has not caught up with the person we have become.
